Documenting the week of July 29-Aug 4

This week we dig back into our cozy, family photo display, discuss the summertime heat and walk directly into the digital apocalypse and color.

Daily Art | July 29 - Aug 4

I had forgotten we started this page last week! We are officially back into the monster yearbook style sketches. This time it’s going in a family album framed photo approach.

July 29th

What a happy-looking pup! There’s a little bit of isolation in the artwork, but this dog is always down to clown! Perhaps it was a bit too hot to stay out long. Could also be what inspired the beach in the sketch. I should have added some lemonade or something cool to this poor person's stand.

July 30th

A touch of color added to this. Perhaps this character is hiding from the sun? Maybe they are a bit more comfortable holding up the wall instead of dipping their sandy toes in the water.

July 30th

Back into portrait mode. I like the strange frames. They feel vintage to me. The traditional square would have worked fine, but I like putting the hatching in these weird ovals.

July 30th

Here is the trio of monster portraits, so far.

With almost every monster theme there will typically be some type of werewolf, right? Somehow this felt like a struggle day though. For that reason alone it is probably my least favorite part of the page. It made sense at the time. I am glad our furry friend made the cut. It is well represented in the overall piece, so that worked out.

Some days feel like a drag. Like picture day, ya know?…

July 31st

These large, long oval shapes are really fun to draw. The thin outline in the character and the way it feels a bit abstract are really appealing to me. Glad to be working on them.

Aug 1st

Most of us had one of these wooden walls in the house growing up. Perhaps a friend or grandparent, if not our very own. It’s time to complete the family album with that touch of homegrown nostalgia.

Aug 2nd

There we go! Now this feels like a happy home. Possibly early 1980s or pre-80s. Either way, these ghouls are now forever immortalized in their grandparents' house. A place where the photos on the wall never have to move again.

I bet if you dared to take them down there would be a brand new wall behind them! Hahahaha!!

Aug 2nd

OK, we are getting into the digital apocalypse now. Needed to work on something with color for a friend and used this as a bit of a warm-up to readjust from pen and paper to the digital format. It’s so bizarre to switch over but was fun to see that color pop after a summertime in purple.

Aug 3rd

Here we go. Continuing on with our digital adventure. You will see more of this in the coming week. Really excited about the project and very thankful to be considered in the discussion.

A friend recently noted that he needed a new promo image for his weekly music blog and I am answering the call. More on the way next week!

Aug 4th

Until then, I hope you all have happy dogs!
