3 decades of absolute destruction

3 decades of absolute destruction

30 years and still unstoppable

From a first glance at this album cover the listener knows they are preparing to experience something unlike anything that came before it.

Through Silver in Blood is the fifth studio album by American post-metal band Neurosis, released on April 2, 1996 through Relapse Records.

We can discuss the importance and greatness of earlier albums in their discography but that could never overshadow the absolute anger and unsettling nature of Through Silver in Blood. This album feels like your life scraping against the grain of a high grit sand paper. Multiple vocals assault the listener simultaneously as they leap forward, many times in separate but slightly overlayed attacks. Bathed in the crushing and engulfing tone of the guitars, the heavily distorted and snakelike slithering bass lines and it’s all rumbling like a steamroller fueled by the tribal percussive nature of drum patterns. Sometime delivered in triplicate. The strange and haunting samples are always present. Sometimes taking the front and always adding to the uncertain anxiety of the timeline that carries the theme in this music.

I consider myself to be very fortune to catch this tour in Atlanta, Georgia at The Point. Front row of a small club, it may seem hard to believe but, performing this material in a live environment took the emotion of these songs to an even darker and cathartic level.

Happy 30th to the Neurosis team. They have changed the world of heavy music many times over and continue to hold the reigns tightly in the modern day.
