Well, this band name is perfectly suited. The technical nature of the album is intense. Grumbling vocals over a high speed pursuit of classic thrash and death metal vibes. Makes me feel sorry for any instrument strings that find their way into the hands of this insanity. This is not a blackened network though. They stick to traditional tactics and that is well received to these ears. It was great to hear a modern thrash album that stays committed to the style. Check out that killer album cover!

This beast is heavy. Like many albums in the post-metal genre it paces itself as it develops. Like the serpent slowly rising, it is prepared to strike but chooses not to move quickly. Instead it slithers into position and awaits its prey to draw near. When it is ready it forms into position and, without warning, the victim has been captured. Slow constriction that crushes bone and steals away breath, This is a true monster of the dark. Great work!

Imagine the crumbling of mountains. The unstoppable destruction of its boulders rolling and crushing all in their path. That is essentially what you get with this release. A force of nature that seeks to follow the force of gravity. It is offset by slow, comforting moments. A sense of peace and tranquility. Like the calm before a storm. The moment before the ground quakes. The trigger that sets the before mentioned avalanche in motion.

This is some straight to the point, filthy, guttural death metal. No apology, no polish and no mercy. The attack is intense and overall presentation is on point. There are a few interesting moments that took me by surprise. Short breaks and smaller sections that push this album a bit further into the fringes than many typical of the death genre would dare to dwell. Dare we say they are open to other aspects of genre experimenting? Those moments are touched upon in small doses, anyway.

Slow, lumbering, oppressive destruction. The riffs are seriously monstrous. Multiple vocals work in unison in the style of suffering screams and guttural growls. This album does not pretend to flirt with doom. It opens the door and lets the darkness breathe. Shadows dance on firelit walls and one will always feel the need to look over their shoulder. Absolute anger and catharsis. Crank up the volume. This album is solid!

This tune sounds like absolute damage in the pit. Big break downs, cookie monster vocals, plenty of punch and keeps chugging along. Slower and slower. Makes me feel sorry for the poor soul getting Keelhauled in this melee of madness.
Iron Jinn - The Futurist (lyric video)
This is such a beautiful song and video. I applaud the visual representation. Though these spots are typically reserved for “video” concepts, the effort that was put into the main feature is worthy of rewatching as the tune slowly builds and expands. Based in a world of prog rock and fusion, everything moves and shifts making time float by as we listen. Well executed and a fantastic adventure into creativity.
Impure Wilhelmina - Électricité noire (Official Music Video)
This is a great rock tune. At first it feels a bit like post-rock shortly before the song sheds its skin and becomes the creature it was born to be. Very palatable and packed with great riffs, clean vocals and a solid balance of dynamically captivating passages. This would be easy to present to anyone who would consider themselves a fan of creative music. The video is packaged and delivered in a perfectly artistic fashion.
The Citadel – Buzzard (Official Music Video)
It would be easy to imagine this video in rotation on any given day of early 90’s era MTV formatting. Slide this in between a Blind Melon and Edie Brickell song and it would be an instant sensation. It visually matches the mood of the song and screams for a nostalgic conversation. The smooth nature of the song is equally amplified by the clean vocal delivery and the bands willingness to resist stomping on a distortion pedal. They have developed and fluid energy and style that is welcomed in this house.
Wildernesses - [dread.] (Official Video)
Take a ride with the band as they drift from town to town. Watch the roads continue and the road markers continue to pass. The song presents a somber yet hopeful feeling of loss, struggle, togetherness and the blossoming of a new day ahead. The tempo shifts between faster sections and slower moments of emotional impact. Clean vocal and nothing over the top in the song cycle. A simple, well delivered presentation of dynamic song craft and the spirit of DIY.
