Every week I find myself praising thanks upon the artists who continue to deliver their vision of artistic expression upon the ears of mankind. It’s a time of abundance and access which can be a double edged sword. My hope is that these picks will help direct your attention to some worthy adversaries upon the battleground we dedicate as our limited listening time. It is a continued quest through the modern musical landscape!

We are opening this week with an album that reaches out and grabs the listener tightly. There is a clear feeling of strong heart and big delivery. This feels like they are channeling something from the spirits of long ago and wrapping it in a touch of modern production. Unusually clean in overall feeling for being so heavy. Vocals that are a combo of screaming and chanting. Almost as if they are using the rhythm to build an empire. Very interesting stuff.

HEXORCIST - Crucificial Imprecations / Invictus Productions
Miami, death metal
Absolutely brutal death metal. Screaming in your face as the razor sharp guitar leads divebomb right through your ears and send your brain bleeding into the speakers. This is a killer! Not even kidding around. If you want it loud, fast and angry, this will be the ticket (and an alarm clock for the neighbors). Proceed with caution. This one may cause fire damage or harsh your mellow, at minimum.

DEAD MEADOW - Foundlings / Heavy Psych Sounds

Continuing to captivate us with their brand of heavily psychedelic soaked rock, this album arrives as a reminder that the band knows how to take us along on a journey into the atmosphere. Clean vocals lead the soaring vibes of this album while a solid rhythmic vibe keeps us leaning forward with anticipation. The rocket ship is already in flight and we can only hang on and enjoy the ride. Highly recommended.

DRY WEDDING - The Back Of Beyond / Vesperian/Metal Blade Records

Reaching deep into a gothic darkness, these tunes welcome the shadow realm into our world and let it completely engulf the light. It feels like some type of otherworldly western with elements of post-punk. Brings to mind an icy morning where you welcome the thaw with the first rays of the sun. Still, it creeps by so slowly that you are not totally sure you have survived the night.

Anatomy Of Habit - Paired Sentinels / Independent
death-rock doom metal metal post-punk industrial shoegaze Chicago
Slow, pulsing post-punk that has managed to fuse doom and sludge elements into a massive wall of sound. Mixing a mellow vocal delivery with peaks and valleys of musical tension, this is a killer work that feels like it channels so many great musical movements and maintains an absolutely fresh presentation in the process. It’s the type of album one needs to listen to multiple times, as its grip keeps growing tighter and tighter.

If you dig abrasive, gnarly industrial stuff that feels like the building is crumbling then this tune is gonna answer that electronic tingle you have been feeling. Harsh vocals over throbbing distorted presentation that will send most running in fear. This, in my opinion, is the way to do it.
BONERIPPER - Deeds Define (Official Music Video)
Straight up, ripping hardcore vibes. Killer bass and drum combo that lay the sound bed for massive guitar chugs and forward facing vocals that scream angrily into your face. The entire tune is directly presented with the intention of shoving it directly down your throat without mercy.
hijss - Vicious Cycle // HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS Records
I am absolutely down for a skate related video! This tune is pulsing, psychedelic and has an underlying surf tone that perfectly fits the visual element featured. Clean vocals that are a bit distorted, driving rhythm and a sonic rocket launch that carries the listener directly into the stars.

Yeti On Horseback - Drug Addict
In case you missed our praise for this album release in our last weekly edition, here is a link to the Decibel Magazine Premiere for their “Drug Addict” Mini-Movie. Slow, sludgy, massive tone, angry screams, gnarly angst and has everything I want to hear in a doom record when it lands on my turntable. Glad to be able to put this one back on the table again this week
CORROSION OF CONFORMITY - Baad Man (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
They are responsible for some of the greatest stoner rock albums and they continue to maintain their signature sound. It is always packed with a great riff, a solid solo and the type of songwriting that belongs in every heavy rock fans record collection. They may not have defined the genre but they certainly claimed the title belt a few times over with their discography. Glad they are back in the ring and continue to be a serious contender.
