This week is gnarly. We are mixing things up a bit while continuing to keep that healthy high pro glow the moisturizer commercials all brag about. This is gonna be fast and heavy as we dip into new jams with classic vibes, elder statesmen with new things surfacing and more hype and excitement than you can shake a stick at!

Gonna break weekly protocol for a moment and step back into last week. Having missed this release until Friday evening, it was not featured and deserves a spot. It is, hands down, the most excited I have been listening to an album all month. Not to cast shade over anything we have discussed in July, but there is something special about this release. The band are veterans to the heavy music scene and deep in it at over 35 years, they have once again, delivered a new album that crushes everything in its wake.

Absolutely furious and abusive death metal. Ripping straight through the speakers and scorching the listener's flesh to a crispy, blackened crunch. Fans of old school death metal will be stoked to find this on their local record store shelves. What else is there to say other than the slows are slow, the fast is fast and the vocals are brutal. This is, in my opinion, what death metal should sound like.

Guttural grunts and blast beat driven death. Guitar harmonic after guitar harmonic, this lo-fi laced album brings the pain at every opportunity. Very rare that they ease up on the tempo. It’s lightning fast and feels like a thousand dark serpents are striking at once. Expect blood and venom to flow.

Big, heavy, chugging drive with clean vocal delivery. Moderately paced and suited for a volume driven live experience. My ear would predict lots of head nodding and fists in the air. Raise your glass and enjoy the vibe. You may get an occasional bump from the rowdies in the crowd or perhaps you might join them in the festivities. Either way, expect solid, heavy rock vibes to happen.

André Drage - Through Death and Beyond / Drage Records

Step into the world of experimental, symphonic jazz. As I was already a fan of the artist from their previous works, this was a pleasant surprise to arrive in more than one way. It’s a lot more mellow than expected. Big respect to artists who are not afraid to flow and let the music speak through them without fear of stepping outside of a previously established genre or expectation. If you need more adrenaline, dig into some of their other works. This one is going to pair well with a slow morning cup of coffee, maybe a book or a late evening in the low light, relaxing. And that is also a pleasure.

Harlott - Trial by Liar (Official Video)
Opening with a straight up Slayer sequenced riff, this tune wastes no time letting you know things are about to get ripped up. The black and white video format works great too. This feels like a classic already. It is even equipped with the mosh perfect break down around the halfway point. Great stuff.
Lifesick - At War With You (Official Video)
If you could define angry with a song, this would be it. This band has been destroying most everything they come face to face with. Now it is your turn. Hardcore, heavy, angst soaked and equipped with a riff so gnarly it makes you snap your jaw so tight your teeth will crumble.
Exumer - Death Mask Messiah (Official Video)
It appears we have stumbled into a nest of thrash vipers in our video sequence this week! Another absolute, no question, thrash’terpiece. No complaints here. Heavy vibes, circle pit activated and feels like the spawn of our forefathers in the metal realm of the early 80’s.
Melting Butter Session #68: Poly-Math - No Such Thing As Now (Live at RAMA Tonstudio)
Instrumental prog jams that take you on a ride through genres the way mom and pop used to cruise through the countryside on their Sunday ride. Buckle up and enjoy the scenery and it moves and shifts. All while maintaining an element of musical clarity any group would be stoked to achieve. Oh, by the way, this is a live video! A+
Neurosis at Fire in the Mountains festival (Day 2 — 07/25/2026)
It seems fair that we close out the video section in a similar way that we opened the new release section. By featuring another group of masters who have been leading the charge for over 40 years. Bonus that we have already tapped into some live footage in the previous video. That means we are going to double down on themes and watch a solid quality fan video of live footage featuring Neurosis at the Fire in the Mountains festival. This group changed the heavy music scene and continues to hold the crown, in my opinion. Their live performances remain indestructible and their new album contains some seriously spine chilling moments.
