Soft, subtle, awkward most of the time and completely stunning in delivery. The sound may feel a touch odd to the ear but hang in there. Most art driven experimentation feels this way in the beginning stage of exploring it. One has to commit to the experience. After an auditory submission has been established the playful and earthy organics of the music begin to grow like root and vine. Slowly entangling the listener in a web of beautiful sound design. Seekers of the new and walkers on the thin outsider edge take a chance on this.

North Carolina has been firing on all cylinders in my mailbox recently. Perhaps it is time for another trip through the mountains. One could imagine the locals running in fear. No need to get in any hurry though. A moderate stride will outpace these tunes with time to spare. Lurching along, the band takes advantage of the tempo to deliver angst incarnate. With vocals that feel bruised and hateful and amplifiers that are bursting into flames, the band manages to capitalize on double bass grooves and ripping guitar solos. It’s a great combo. Especially when considering the doom driven, sludgy blues vibes.

This lands at a great time for me. The playlist in the car has been hip hop heavy lately and these tunes fall perfectly in line for such a road trip. The beats feel a touch lo-fi, in a good way. Plenty of head nods and solid instrumentation to accompany the groove. In fact, the overall vibe is rooted in jazz as much as it is hip hop which makes the album flow very comfortably. Solid lyrical representation when present and occasional guests for a few mic hand offs that create additional dynamics.

Moon Destroys - Missing Wish (Official Visualizer) | Blues Funeral Recordings
Seeing reference to Torche, Abrams and Royal Thunder in the early promo for this a few weeks ago caught my attention. Since then, the singles have not let me down. Killer vibes, driving rhythms and heavy riffs glazed with clean vocal deliveries. Great rock and roll represented in our current musical climate! Don’t let anyone convince you that rock is not actively happening.

VILLAGERS OF IOANNINA CITY - Venceremos (Official Video) | Napalm Records
Yet another solid representation of heavy rock actively spilling its blood across our lands. Similar to our previous Moon Destroys discussion, this is heavy, driving rhythm and has a clean vocal leading the charge. This tune goes in a bit more mainstream way via the polished vocal style but nothing that oversteps, in my opinion. Solid video work to accompany the audio.

If you woke up this morning searching for some interesting psychedelic rock to be represented in this blog, look no further. This is a great tune soaked in noise rock, harsh, screamy vocals and distorted riffs that slice the atmosphere like a warm knife through butter. Killer jam and I cannot wait for you to hear more of this album!
SARCATOR - The Ones We Follow (Official Music Video) | Reigning Phoenix Music
Sometimes a song just feels fun and nothing else matters. This is a heavy metal attack with gruff vocals screaming into your face and a chugging vibe that makes me feel like the Cramps have gone thrash. Haha! It is too fun to ignore. Double bass driving and guitar solo ripping. Check it out and let me know if you hear something different than my ear translated.
Sun Voyager - Coming Down (Official Music Video) | Tee Pee Records
Welcome the fuzz. This delivers a stoner vibe that feels like being trapped in a room full of bong battling teenagers. It touches on psychedelic with a slow, heavy approach and a clean vocal that may be a bit raspy from exhaling a lung full of THC just before belting their lyrics into the microphone. This is a great tune that feels both comfortable and full of mind expanding tone.
