Welcome to the Edge of the World | New Music Releases September 11, 2026
Sometimes it feels like I may be burning out or running low on time to contribute. Perhaps it is a touch of both. Yet, after years of digging through music bins and investigating new releases, it never ceases to captivate me. There is never a lack of inspiration that would prevent me from celebrating the art, struggle, sacrifice, and power of the riff.
This week was no different. Let’s get into it!

New Album Releases …
Filth (Sweden) - Death Exhibition / Me Saco Un Ojo, Rotted Life
Lurching, low-end, guttural brutality. Imagine the Cookie monster crawling out from under a two-hundred-year-old grave stone. With its stench and decay follows a continuous earth-crawling movement of disheveled, rotted corpses, hungry for one thing. Hint: It’s not going to be chocolate chips. This death metal delicacy does not shy away from the power of a slow, gloomy riff. It also knows when to crank up the heart rate.

Problem With Dragons - Permian / Independent
Metallic in nature and nestled in the pocket of chugging heavy metal glory that the early ‘90s brought to the table. It is interesting to hear this working so well in the modern music world and to consider how refreshing it is. No bells, whistles, or general irony. It is honest, straightforward, catchy, head-nodding good-time metal. Moderate pace and punchy riff-work that consolidate to form a strong foundation for the vocals to deliver the one-two punch they need to float the keg and raze a venue to the ground.

MAGIC CROSS - MAGIC CROSS / Caligari Records
Raw, abusive hardcore punk that feels like it rolled straight out of the gutter. It is quite possible it was previously sleeping under that crusty dumpster or in a van, at some point. Either way, it is awake now and has no care for your feelings. Harsh, screamy vocals consistently assault the listener. The production is a bit lo-fi and works well with the abusive tone of the overall package. This noise-baked batch of tunes feels hateful and gnarly. Great combo on the band name and artwork!

Everything Decays - Requiem II: We Will Slaughter the Lambs / Independent
Get into it or get out of the way. There is nothing apologetic about these tunes. They are aggressive, full-throttle, and will cut you down if you stand in their way. Scathing vocals scream out over chugging breakdowns, occasional blast beats and power-packed sections of pure anger. Occasional double bass creeps in and out and the spirit is deathcore to the bone. You will find no sunshine and rainbows in this holy land of destruction—only dark clouds and desolation.

Foreign Body - Libertine / Brutal Panda Records
Angry, noise-bathed hardcore punk that feels like it may be pissed off about existing in a world that constantly steps on our humanity at every turn. There is pure filth in every note, disgust in every riff, and absolute angst in every syllable blurted into the microphone. A pummeling rhythm section pours its special chemical mixture all over the crime scene so the blacklight can illuminate those horrid activities hiding in plain sight. It exposes real life to those who may generally try to turn their heads in disgust or look the other direction in a blatant attempt to ignore the reality of the world we live in.

Holy smokes! This is a blisteringly gnarly post-deathcore march directly into a cold brick wall of heaviness. Prepare to lose a few teeth when you press play and it smashes you in the face.
SATURNA - Absence (Live at Siete Barbas Estudio 2026)
It’s Psychedelic Baby! Magazine premiered this tune by the Barcelona psych rockers. Their previous material caught my attention in the December 2023 edition of the Doom Charts, and this new stuff is equally rad. If you like cleanly delivered, powerfully emotional heavy rock, this is well worth your time.

Lustmord Lombardo “Paleomagnetic Resonance”

It makes me so happy to hear all of the creative work that Dave Lombardo is consistently working into our lives. Not only is he the highly renowned drummer in the world’s most iconic thrash band, but he also continues to defy boundaries by creeping into amazing creative spaces. This release is no exception.

BLACK ROYAL - Drown the Seaweed (Official Music Video)
This is a powerful metal jam. With gravel-throated vocals, great bass work, and solid percussion, my foot was tapping almost immediately. Overall, it is a comfortable, volume-pushing chord progression with a dynamic, aggressive, open-aired feel.
