As we welcome the arrival of the spooky season, we also open our ears to the shifting tides of music. This week feels a touch more outside of the box and experimental in scope. Yet it reminds me of the fortune we share in having so many beautiful creatives consistently at work to forge new paths from their minds to our hearts. Let’s get into it!

Looking for something a bit outside of the normal path? This is the ticket! Two bands that equally hold their own on this split LP. Mixing slow, sludgy heaviness with a touch of punk rock flavor, this is a great way to experience a new band or two. Gritty vocals and top notch riffs, all around. One of these may be your new favorite band! Either way, expect a good time.

Rapidly Aging - You’re Not Yourself Lately / Fig on Wrist
Traveling at a slow and steady pace through post-metal, ambient sounds and sludge, these songs weigh heavily on emotional aspects. We might as well add a dose of post-rock into the mix here. The instrumental flavor allows the listener to drift away into the subtle drip of southern hospitality while maintaining an established foothold in the arena of a gloomy darkness and shadow. The tension feels like watching water retract into the ocean before the tsunami returns with death and destruction.

Expect the unexpected. A welcome cleansing to traditional standards. With a touch of math-rock in its bloodstream, the band slowly builds in dynamic and shapeshifts at every caustic moment of opportunity. Similar to a child building with Legos, the path is spirited yet undetermined and remains rooted in the heart of creativity. It moves and shifts while pulses come and go in a free jazz, unorthodox method. This is an artistic movement that brings a previously unseen image from the canvas.

This is a meditation practice of slow breathing, mind shifting and redeveloping space within ourselves. There is a darkness that stands just beyond our reach. One that often attempts to knock upon our soul. This is the sound of tribal warfare against that shadow. An armour that can help us acquire the tools needed and retain control over ever changing molecular structure. A rhythmic seduction and sonic rebirth.
