New Album Releases …

In Obscurity - Revealed Caustic Maelstrom / Personal Records

Grumbling vocals over blast beats and brutality. Bring on the dive-bombing guitar leads and your soul shall be ripped to shreds. Every riff attacks like a maniac wielding a sharpened blade. Your nightmares come to life as this masterwork uses the pure essence of death metal to slaughter all.

Orbita - Farewell to All We’ve Lost / Aural Music

A somber document to all that is left behind. Taking the more emotional components of heavy music genres and mixing them into a cinematic flair, this album takes the listener on a path that wanders between quiet shadows and the depths of both sorrow and strength. With a clean vocal presented to guide the way, these songs can feel gloomy and powerful. The touchstone of doom is very present in the album as it lives on the edge without spilling into the abyss of it all.

Crimson Coven - -I- The Forge / Cruz Del Sur Music

This is a fun record. Filled with heavy metal chugging, powerful lead sections and gauntlets raised to the sky, it transports me back to a time where my stereo would be my source of inspiration in my search for musical salvation. Cassettes from the local shop would surround the area. With mystery and wonder in my heart, I would often purchase an item without knowledge of the band. Unfamiliar with their sound, the riffs would scream through the speakers. The operatic vocals would soar through the room and it would feel as though the battle to discover more heavy metal had been won. Fans of traditional heavy metal will welcome this into their arsenal.

Witchthroat Serpent - Demons Left To Roam / Heavy Psych Sounds

With distortion so thick it burns through the speaker cones, this album has no issue announcing itself as a doom-soaked sludge monster. With white-hot coals smoldering behind it, a corrosive hand reaches out to choke your stoner heart into submission. The vibe is dark and sinister with all of the best in witchy qualities one could ask for. Lurching, slow riffs that feel like stone cracking and clean but slightly obscured vocals, this is a heavy hitter. Imagine a resin-coated bong load ready to rip into a fresh lung. It’s ready to blaze.

Tenebra - A Death Chant EP / New Heavy Sounds

A welcome psychedelic trip through prog-rock worlds. Slow-paced but not sluggish. It flows in a way that brings the ear closer into the sound bed. Communing with cosmic connections and intermingling with the Earth’s vibrations, these songs allow the listener to drift along a whimsical place that shares space with a colorful and expansive universe. The vocals are powerful in the later section of the EP. For the earlier work they are sparse, restrained, and low in the mix. In my opinion, they sit at the optimum volume to create more dynamics. A style and pace that chooses not to derail the atmospheric celebration taking place. Instead, they complement it with mystery. Prepare yourself to launch into the stars and melt down. A+ in my book.
