Let's Talk About...
Fleshies - The Sicilian LP
It seems so long ago yet crystal clear in my mind. It was a wednesday. We drove to the venue, arrived at 9pm and sat around, waitied, and sat around for a while longer. It had been a long day at work and now nothing was happening here. Then around midnight some folks started bringing gear into the venue. The first band struggled through their set. It was taxing. Next, another group got on stage and proceeded to punish the crowd with whatever noise based art they were developing at an improvised level. This was enough for me to require physically restraining my spouse so we could stay for The Fleshies. It's now 3am and we will need to be at work in less than 4 hours. Our home is over an hour drive away already. The improv band had destroyed the stage and littered it with broken gear, drums, whatever they could find to throw that would make noise. The Fleshies walked up to assess the situation, laid a drum carpet down in front of the stage on the floor, set up their gear directly where we were standing and proceeded to absolutely blister through their set list. It was worth every punishing second leading up to it. We got home in time to take a shower and go to work. My wife said she will never return to that venue again and she has remained true to her word.
