Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsys

Let's Talk About...
Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsys LP

Recorded live January 1, 1970, this record is the first without the original Experience line up. It gently drifts in as the announcer introduces, "Band of Gypsys". Though it is now labeled as a Jimi Hendrix album, the group, to my knowledge, planned to proceed as Band of Gypsys and not under the Hendrix name. Can anyone out there reading this back me up on that info? Shortly after the blues foundation is set we hear the soulful voice of Buddy Miles present straight out of the gate as it echoes Hendrix and eventually steps into the forward light. Can you imagine where Hendrix could have gone without having to hold down the vocals all the time? This is a small piece of that answer. Billy Cox keeps everything in the pocket and this album begins to soar. Though Hendrix may be known for all of the strange sounds emanating from his guitar, this is a straight up soulful blues band. Very little more than three guys, a power supply, songwriting and a stage to perform. Thankfully someone captured this and we have the recorded album to reflect back on the power of the project and discuss what could have been.

They don't know. They don't know. Like I know. Like I know. Do you know. They don't know. I don't know. I don't know… https://open.spotify.com/album/0X8uUl77dOADdr7v1ECVB2?si=Lb-2zHGGQtS0-jh7GIw7-w
