There are a ton of great albums dropping this week. Early into this adventure I made a choice to limit myself to 10 albums per post on bulky release weeks. Having said that, keep an eye on your local shops and other music community posts. This is a small taste. Let's dig in.

Abject Cruelty by Last Retch / Time To Kill Records

https://lastretch.bandcamp.com/album/abject-cruelty

In the heart of Hamilton, Ontario LAST RETCH returns with Abject Cruelty, their most punishing and refined statement to date. Due out September 26, 2025 via Time to Kill Records, this eight-track slab of old-school death metal captures the raw energy of a band embracing its fury and focus with sharpened intent. It's a soundtrack to social rot: tight, unflinching, and seething with contempt.

Third Rail Prayer by Ordeals / Eternal Death

https://eternaldeath.bandcamp.com/album/third-rail-prayer

ETERNAL DEATH is proud to present ORDEALS' long-awaited debut album, Third Rail Prayer, on CD and vinyl LP formats.

Formed in 2011, ORDEALS are a black / death trio hailing from New York City. What the band lacks in prolificness, they more than ably exceed in quality of craftsmanship. To date, the band released three short-lengths - the Apotheosis EP in 2016, a split with Daethorn in 2018, and the Choose Death EP in 2019 - hinting at the mastery to come across a full-length.

Pain at the Altar of Jest by ESSES / Seeing Red Records

https://essesmusic.bandcamp.com/album/pain-at-the-altar-of-jest

Oakland-born, now Portland-based post-goth outfit ESSES return with their 3rd LP, Pain at the Altar of Jest—their most expansive and intentional work to date. Written after a move to the Pacific Northwest, the album draws influence from the city and it's scene, it's surrounding landscape, and a shift in the band’s dynamic: the addition of John Chap and Kel stepping forward as both front-person and guitarist. Deconstructing their own sound, ESSES rebuilt from scratch—letting ancestral threads, dreams, and post-pandemic disillusionment shape a vivid lyrical mythology. Tracked with Adam Pike at Toadhouse Studios, the songs came together with trust, urgency, and clarity. No filler—just raw, carved intention.

The Mind's Eternal Storm by Echoes of Gloom / ATMF

https://echoesofgloom.bandcamp.com/album/the-minds-eternal-storm

Brace yourself for a sonic tempest like no other — The Mind’s Eternal Storm by Echoes of Gloom is a breathtaking journey into the heart of atmospheric metal, as evocative and powerful as the forging of swords in ancient halls beneath shadowed mountains.

Upon Tall Thrones by Warcoe / Ripple Music

https://warcoe.bandcamp.com/album/upon-tall-thrones

Since 2021, the Pesaro-based trio has carved a niche in the underground with a sound that’s both a homage to the old gods and a fresh hell of its own: slow-burning, groove-heavy, and laced with stoner metal venom. Their debut album "The Giant’s Dream" emerged like a monolith from the depths, earning praise within the scene before Regain Records unleashed it on vinyl and CD — a fitting resurrection for an album steeped in doom’s primordial essence. The 2023 follow-up, "A Place for Demons", proved Warcoe wasn’t just a relic revival act but a true force to be reckoned with. Landing at #2 on Doom Charts’ Best of December and #37 for the entire year, the album masterfully fused Trouble’s anthemic might with the creeping dread of Pentagram, all while swinging like Saxon in a candlelit crypt.

The band is now getting ready to unleash its raw doom power upon the masses again, releasing their third full-length and Ripple Music debut "Upon Tall Thrones" in the fall of 2025.

Ethereal Emanations From Chthonic Caries by Abraded / Redefining Darkness Records

https://abraded-official.bandcamp.com/album/ethereal-emanations-from-chthonic-caries

Somewhere between early Carcass, Assuck, Agathocles and Autopsy, lies Abraded, who offer an array of festering sewer-riffage accented by frantic Mick Harris-inspired drumming and bloated grooves. Featuring members of underground legends Hemdale, Abraded released their first demo in 2018 followed by a self-titled full length in 2021 on Maggot Stomp Records. The second full length, Unadulterated Perversity, was released under main-main Patric Pariano's imprint, Aggressively Uninterested, in 2023. Two years later, we are happy to announce Abraded have partnered with Redefining Darkness Records to release their most vile album yet, Ethereal Emanations from Cthonic Caries!

Transcendental by THE ANSWER LIES IN THE BLACK VOID / Lay Bare Recordings

https://theanswerliesintheblackvoid.bandcamp.com/album/transcendental

THE ANSWER LIES IN THE BLACK VOID, the alchemical collaboration between vocalist Martina Horváth (Thy Catafalque) and composer/multi-instrumentalist Jason Köhnen (Celestial Season, Bong-Ra, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble), have announced their third full-length album, "Transcendental", set for release on September 26, 2025 via Lay Bare Recordings.

Bleed The Wicked, Drown The Damned by COSMIC REAPER / Heavy Psych Sounds

https://heavypsychsoundsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/cosmic-reaper-bleed-the-wicked-drown-the-damned

Arose from the shadows of Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2017, Cosmic Reaper has carried a black-flamed torch of tradition, forged in the long lineage of doom and sludge. While their roots lie in the hallowed halls of Sabbath and Saint Vitus, the band’s DNA mutates further, pulling from the textured anger of Soundgarden and even the chaotic forces of Snapcase. Cosmic Reaper isn’t interested in simply echoing the past; they swirl it in a glass, layering a cocktail of thunderous bass and drums, brink-of-destruction fuzz, and ethereal vocals into a sonic ritual all their own.

Paradigm Lost by Marmalade Knives / Electric Valley Records

https://evrecords.bandcamp.com/album/marmalade-knives-paradigm-lost

Electric Valley Records presents Paradigm Lost, the forthcoming record by the bicoastal US psych rockers Marmalade Knives, out September 26th on three vinyl variants and across digital platforms.

Marmalade Knives draw inspiration from the pastoral vistas of Popol Vuh, the thunderous drive of Neu!, the jazzy atmospheres of Annexus Quam, and the proggy grandeur of Amon Düül II. Originally formed in the mountains of Santa Cruz, CA, the group began as a collaboration between guitarists Clinton Wilkins and Justin Spivey, united by a passion for exploring the outer reaches of psychedelic music. Their creative partnership soon became a trio with the addition of longtime LA/SF psych scene aficionado and bass savant Mark Robinson before expanding into a full-on ensemble of local freak-rock ’n’ rollers.

The Seeing House by Irk / Nefarious Industries

https://irkband.bandcamp.com/album/the-seeing-house

Nefarious Industries presents The Seeing House, the thundering second LP from English experimental/noise rock trio, IRK.

Self-described as “Leeds’ normalest weirdos, IRK was formed in 2013, their driven sound the work of vocalist J.S. Gordon, bassist Ed Snell, and drummer Matthew Deamer. They released their debut EP, Bread And Honey, in 2014, followed by a split with London sludge outfit Wren in 2015, quickly attracting attention for the wild spontaneity that defines their live show.,” the group continued to hone their craft with extensive touring throughout the UK and Europe, performing at festivals like Arctangent, Wrong Festival, and Strangeforms, and sharing the stage with Liturgy, Dope Body, Pissed Jeans, Blacklisters, USA Nails, Whores, Part Chimp, Frontierer, and many more.
