MIR: Thank you for taking the time to do this. Please introduce yourself to the readers.
C: "Coppergear" is my artist name. I'm a composer of instrumental music, sometimes expérimental, sometimes more techno, mostly in between the two. I have a big interest in classical music and I like to put sounds of the genre in my music. I'm working on something with some jazz vibes. But still, the weirdness is never far away...
MIR: How did you get started on this adventure?
C: I started a long time ago with making music by myself. Then I created different bands of different genres, punk, electro-rock, etc ... We even got signed on a label. Not a good one. I stopped making music for a while then I started again in 2015 or something... In 2023, I decided to return to my instrumental music composition with the name "Coppergear"
MIR: If you could go back to the day you started and give yourself one piece of advice, what would that be?
C: Don't start a band, continue making your music by yourself. It will be worth it eventually.
MIR: What is something that you have adopted that brings value to your process?
C: Something that changed my process is embracing imperfection early on. Mistakes can be very interesting. I look for them and try to see what they can offer...
MIR: Please highlight some of the things you enjoy most about what you do.
C: Composing all by myself can bring peace of mind. There is nobody to check my process and bring criticism. If you are hard enough with yourself you don't need it, even if it's constructive criticism. Do what you want to do. That's it.
MIR: What are some of your current goals? Things you may hope to achieve in the next 12-24 months or further.
C: I would like to have more followers so that I can make more money (?) 😅
Yeah, that and more concerts!
MIR: What is an unpopular opinion that you subscribe to or a popular opinion that you disagree with?
C: The idea that the word "experimental" means "weird". In reality, all music evolves through innovation and risk-taking. Experimentation is not an exception, but a creative necessity.
MIR: Is there anything you want to mention as we close?
C: Please support artists that do things differently. For the love of God, I beg you!
MIR: Thank you for your time and I appreciate what you are doing.
