Sun Ra - Lanquidity LP
Listening to Sun Ra can be challenging. He was clearly on his own trajectory through the musical cosmos and trying to tap into some universal, celestial truth in music that could enlighten mankind. One of the beauties about his work is also one of the most bizarre to the common listener. He held no persistence in expectation of format, excluding that you can always could on his next album to be new. There is probably a message calling out beyond the stars and we may all catch up to it one day. Until then, this remains my favorite Sun Ra release and falls into my top five jazz albums. It may drift from time to time but this is also the most accessible for someone looking to wet their sonic palette with the sounds of outer space. Let Sun Ra be your spirit guide.
