Booker Little 4 & Max Roach

Black and White Wednesday! Let's Talk About... Booker Little 4 & Max Roach LP If you are looking to step toward the jazz circuit but none of your friends seem to have the inside scoop, trust Uncle Bobby when he says this is a great option to consider. Max Roach was one of the major players of jazz drumming and this record does not take long to showcase why. Where many jazz albums lean heavy on the moody, mellow and smokey vibes, this record is mostly uptempo. There is a track or two that take it down a notch but those stay pretty active musically as the process is...
Cars - Candy-O + Panorama

Twosday Tuesday! Let's Talk About... Cars - Candy-O + Panorama LP There is an endless supply of hooks and ear worms in the Cars discography. Probably some of the most distinguishable song writing and presentation you'll hear flowing through your radio speakers. The production is always clean, the voice of Ric Ocasek is unmistakable and the keyboard sounds became one of the trademark styles of the 80's. These two albums landed in '79 and '80 making them a large part of the building blocks for what was to follow in the music world. Even though it's not featured here, Moving In Stereo became the staple of "She's hot" soundbytes after being...

Let's Talk About... Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsys LP Recorded live January 1, 1970, this record is the first without the original Experience line up. It gently drifts in as the announcer introduces, "Band of Gypsys". Though it is now labeled as a Jimi Hendrix album, the group, to my knowledge, planned to proceed as Band of Gypsys and not under the Hendrix name. Can anyone out there reading this back me up on that info? Shortly after the blues foundation is set we hear the soulful voice of Buddy Miles present straight out of the gate as it echoes...

Let's Talk About... White Zombie - La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Volume 1 LP When it comes to records, there are very few that raise the flag of dirt and grime high enough to make me think of muscle cars, motorcycles, the smell of exhaust, oil and gasoline. Before we connect these references to the song Black Sunshine, let me step out in front and say this record was consumed hourly in a garage filled with these specific elements. Make no mistake, those elements arrived in my life long before this record found its way onto the stereo system. Motorhead, Zeke, White Zombie, L7, Helmet, these artists all make me...
David Bowie - Blackstar

David Bowie - Blackstar LP It is absolutely poetic the way this album was released. The music is some of my favorite Bowie music to be released in many years and his immediate demise directly after it's release added to such emotional power behind it's arrival. It's as though he used the last of his universal energy to align the cosmos and make this thing happen a specific way. If someone reading this has yet to hear it, please consider giving it a listen. If you are open to a small dose, you can hear a track featured on our podcast episode 227 where he is nestled in among some damn fine company in the playlist. Something...
