Nirvana - Incesticide

This is a killer compilation and is a top notch representation of a band having a great time. From start to finish, these songs really showcase what the band accomplished before the wave of fame swept them away in an unforeseen sea change of pop culture. That is not a negative statement, by the way. It's simply the facts. Like it or not, there is a footnote in history signifying the before and after of Nirvana.
Elliott Smith - Roman Candle

Every now and again you rediscover an artist. Something that might have been of interest but never actually took hold. Revisiting the Elliott Smith catalog has been one of those moments for me. If you enjoy alternative folk music, this could be in your wheelhouse. Not sure if that description fits the exact vibe but I'm glad these documents exist for us to enjoy whenever the universe allows.
Pantera - Far Beyond Driven

Well, why not follow up the Skid Row discussion with some of their soul mates in the music world. If you think for a second that this record does not contain strength in riffs and the power to turn any live room into a circle pit you would be mistaken. The Abbott brothers clearly have some type of blood harmony that has been translated into a precision attack. No need to debate it.
Skid Row - Self Titled

All you need to do to watch me light up like a preteen hopped up on sugar is fire up the self titled Skid Row album. Most folks are familiar with the big radio hits, which are still A+ material, but what many never consider is the format of the album. The breakthrough hit is the B-side opener and it's toward the end of Side A before you hear anything ever featured on MTV. This probably helped secure my repeat listening because I'm committed by the time those MTV hits start bleeding through the speakers. Side note: All of those MTV hits are killers.
Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique

The numbers all seem to land around the same area but there seems to be a little debate that muddies the water. What is clear is, the number of samples that make up Paul's Boutique is in the triple digits. A quick jump on the digital box pulled this quote. "According to Dust Brother Mike Simpson, Paul's Boutique contains "between 100 and 300" samples. Oh, you think that's crazy? Now consider how many remixes, alternate takes and endless enjoyment the Beastie Boys have provided for us. Another digital quote to close the thought. "Beastie Boys Celebrate 30th Anniversary of 'Paul's Boutique' With The Release of 6 Digital EPs featuring 21 Rare Remixes and B-Sides!" Shout out to Johnny Ryall, the Tennessee homie!
